As you will probably guess this is a high energy job. After the blinds go down we decompress kind of like when a bus lets out a big gush of air at the bus stop. Oh boy, yesterday’s decompression was like a blade in a car tyre. Today we’re recovering.

So, we’re contemplating adding a new member to the gang. In a normal job you state the roles and responsibilities to your prospective employee and decide if they’ll be a good fit but it’s hard to explain the deli. From customers to staff it’s hard to comprehend.

Chicken + tarragon ragu pasta
Sausage + mushroom salad

Edamame + crispy shallot rice

Coconut curry with crispy tofu

A disorganised morning to say the least but I think I have a handle on things now. My birthday is in a mere 2 weeks and I have nothing planned. It seems I might have to arrange something myself. Why should I stress myself to entertain others on the day of my birth?
Salads:
Thai spiced curry with mung beans
Cumin roasted carrot rice
Beef, pork + chicken ragu pasta
Mad salad
Soup: Carrot + ginger with korean chilli flakes
There was such a beautiful community feel in the deli this morning. People were chatting and laughing, other was shouting at me…the ambience was excellent. I’m putting this down to the 4 day working week. It’s so European to take time to enjoy your morning coffee, shame we left the EU…

Leek · black olive + tomato pasta
Fattoush
Sandwich: Parma ham, La torta (Mascarpone + gorgonzola), Spicy peach relish + tomato
Happy 4/20. I’m waking up a little happier at the moment because the sun is rising before me. I had a customer ask me ‘what is paprika?’ and instead of just answering I stared at them for a moment to compute the question. Is paprika a foreign ingredient? I see as a staple product.
Salads:
Tuscan beans
Lemon + rosemary rice
Mushroom ragu pasta
Panzanella
Soup: Roast squash · potato + paprika
You’ll be delighted to know, we’re back. I had a great long weekend, thank you for asking. I ate so much. I was like a machine. I would like to go on some kind of detox just for a little bit of discipline but i’m sure you can tell just from my behaviour behind the counter, self discipline is something I lack.

Moroccan spiced lentils
Sumac + chive rice
Broccoli · pea · chilli + garlic pasta
Beetroot + orange salad
Soup: Bean · tomato + rosemary

4 day weekend. I feel so sorry for anyone that has to work mainly because everyone around them will be cheering on the weekend which would just make you more miserable. I have to remember today is not a Friday but my god, the vibes are great.

Lemon · sweet chilli + garlic rice
Courgette · tomato + basil pasta
Potato + tings
Soup: Indian spiced lentils
Sandwich: Cumberland sausage, Provola cheese, jalapeno relish + tomato
Due to a social life I haven’t been to the gym in a week. Yesterday I dragged myself to what turned out to be a workout from hell. I could have cried in the corner. Obviously to the outside world I looked normal (relatively) but inside I was whimpering asking ‘why am I even here?’ Then I went home and had quiche.
Salads:
Coconut chickpea curry
Edamame + crispy shallot rice
Roast pepper + cashew pesto pasta
BBQ jackfruit noodle salad
Soup: Leek · dill + tomato
So the chick in the window looks like it was born in a nuclear plant. It’s become a toxic chick but I love it. I’ve been super hyped today because i’ve made a super cheesy sandwich special. I fought for this sandwich. Mother isn’t a fan of gluttony but I am.
Salads:
Mung bean curry
Roast vegetable rice
Pork + beef ragu pasta
Surimi salad
Soup: Sweet potato + ginger
Sandwich: Italian cooked ham, mozzarella, spicy peach relish, BBQ mayo + tomato
I decided to get artsy this morning you’ll see the result in the window when you come in. I was watched by many as I frantically coloured in a chick for an Easter instalment. Hopefully the critics will like it and only mock me slightly…

Paprika peppers + white bean
Spinach + herb rice
Roast vegetable ragu pasta
Lentil + paneer
Soup: Broccoli + tomato
I woke up this morning and when I realised it’s Friday a smile slowly formed on my face. This is strange i’m not usually one to have a ‘Friday feeling’ but hey, there you go. I have made mild plans for the weekend because I haven’t had the time to plan anything. I do wish there were more hours in the day.
Salads:
Curried lentils
Ginger + turmeric rice
Super green pasta
Panzanella
Soup: Tuscan tomato

I went to the vets yesterday and put my dog in a head lock while the vet administered jabs into his rear end. Other than that the evening was uneventful. This evening I will be dining at Fatt Pundit in Covent Garden. I tend not to go there anymore because it makes me feel like an ant. and well.. I’m queen bee.
Salads: Chilli non carne
Spinach + herb rice
Leek · black olive + tomato pasta
Soup: Cumin roasted carrot + sweet potato
Ever since I was a child I’ve hated sleeping in silence, so I put my laptop on and nowadays I watch Netflix. My show of choice at the moment is Come dine with me. A classic. Usually a baked camembert followed by meat and two veg accompanied by dauphinoise potatoes. To finish, a chocolate mousse. For a country that’s not a fan of the French they sure use their cuisine a lot…

Edamame + crispy shallot rice
Smokey aubergine + tomato pasta
Fregola salad
Sandwich: Chorizo, Asiago cheese, Jalapeno relish + tomato
Soup: Leek · dill + tomato
I feel a little off kilter today because my weekend sleeping schedule was backwards. The rain seems to be keeping many indoors so i’m able to ease myself into the week. Is anyone else tired of being on hold to some kind of ‘service provider’. I use parentheses because I wouldn’t be calling if said service had taken place.
Salads:
Moroccan spiced lentils
Sumac + preserved lemon rice
Roast squash + rosemary pasta
Tuna + potato salad
Sandwich: Roast lamb, Sriracha mayo, chilli relish, cucumber, red onion

Though I hate to say it, there’s been a real Friday feeling in the deli. Everyone seems relaxed and just happy. It could all be a façade but hey… i’ll take it. Sun is out but it’s bitterly cold. I’m still full from my all American dinner last night. I’m in need of some deli nutrition today.
Salads:
Mexican beans
Kale, garlic + lemon rice
Primavera pasta
Panzanella style salad
Soup: Vegetable madras
I was relatively inactive yesterday because I was on a Netflix binge. I finished season 2 of Top Boy. Wow, great stuff. I am currently on hold with Thames Water and I’ve been trying to contact SSE too. Pardon my aggression this lunchtime, the frustration is real.

Cauliflower + split pea curry
Ginger + carrot rice
Baked veggie pasta
Chorizo + bean braise
Soup: Cumin roasted carrot
Sandwich: Fennel salame, Provola cheese, Red onion relish, Tomato
It’s been one of those debating days. Each customer that comes in seems to want an opinion on a topic that’s on their mind. I have a slightly toxic trait, I play devils advocate very convincingly. In fact I won’t actually admit in the end what opinion I hold because it’s more fun.
Salads:
White bean + paprika beetroot
Sun-dried tomato · garlic + spinach rice
Courgette · tomato + basil pasta
Baked pasta
Soup: Sweetcorn · ginger + potato
