Day 659 Sliced meats

I have brought in so much bread in anticipation for this Friday. I feel like we are going to be really busy. I have managed to slice my hand like a tender steak this morning but it has pumped me with adrenaline. So bring it on world. We’re ready (I think).

Salads:

Mexican beans

Sumac + dill rice

Roast squash ragu pasta

Soup: Carrot, ginger + potato

Day 658 Me, myself + sandwiches

I nearly passed out at the gym this morning but I styled it out, of course. I’m feeling fine now, ready to attack the day. I love working on the sandwich section. This is quite unprofessional to say but the job is so much easier when you don’t have to interact with humans.

Salads:

Peri peri cauliflower + chickpea

Sweetcorn, chilli + spring onion rice

Smokey aubergine + tomato pasta

Polenta, pork + bean stew

Soup: sweet potato + ginger

Sandwich: Fennel salame, Pecorino cheese, chilli relish + tomato

Day 657 Distracted

I got so distracted today. I was suppose to sit at my desk and do a variety of tasks and instead I allowed myself to be drawn in to numerous conversations on shop floor. I need to stay hyped because yesterday went well but I wasn’t there mentally. I’m being tested today though, I’ve had the weirdest questions thrown at me.

Salads:

Curried lentils + aubergine

Ginger + turmeric rice

Sausage + ham pasta

Jackfruit salad

Soup: Celeriac + potato

Day 656 The light is coming

The sun is rising earlier but it’s still cold AF. I can’t wait for summer I think the cold makes me more of a hermit. I have to dig deep and hype myself every time I leave the house. Though there has been some titillating conversation today, i’m still quite lethargic.

Salads:

Chilli non carne

Spinach + herb rice

Mushroom ragu pasta

Braised beans, potato + salted ricotta

Soup: Tuscan tomato

Sandwich: Chorizo, chilli pecorino, onion relish + tomato

Day 655 Nuggets

Lovely, wholesome weekend. The family was at home, there are pros and cons to this. There’s always food, but there’s also unnecessary conflict. My chicken nuggets got eaten without anyone consulting me. They were replaced with a different brand and I was a little miffed but the situation was aggravated by everyone telling me to relax. I was relaxed, I was just stating that if you are going to replace an item it should be the same.

Salads:

Tuscan beans

chilli, garlic + rosemary rice

Roast pepper + almond pesto pasta

Spinach + ricotta cheesy bake

Soup: Cumin roasted parsnip + potato

Day 654 Let's get loud

What a morning. I can imagine if you’re not a morning person the idea of going to the deli would be a lot. It was so loud and chaotic but to me it’s so fun to watch people let go with out any drugs or alcohol (in this case i’m not considering caffeine a drug). Introverts are still welcome.

Salads:

Five spiced veg + black beans

Crispy tofu and ginger rice

Leek, black olive + tomato pasta

Soup: Sweetcorn, ginger + tomato

Sandwich: Cumberland sausage, Provola cheese, apple chutney + tomato

Day 653 Tired but happy

We’re a man down today so it’s an all female cast for today’s show. I’m feeling very tired but nothing an extra shot of coffee won’t fix. I might have a night in tonight and recuperate, however I will say i’m super excited to work the counter with she who shall not be named, it’s gonna be vibes.

Salads:

Indian spiced bean curry

Ginger + turmeric rice

Courgette, tomato + basil pasta

Vegetable ragu fregola (giant cous cous)

Soup: Leek, dill + potato

Day 652 Let's play some basketball

I’m determined to get shit done today. I woke up before dawn and pottered to the gym it was -2 degrees but i’m trying to not let the weather get in my way. Tonight i’m going to watch a basketball game. I’ve always wondered why it never took off in this country, maybe we just have a short population.

Salads:

Braised chickpeas + aubergine

Lemon + herb rice

Cauliflower + cashew pesto pasta

Cheesy potato bake

Soup: Tuscan tomato + courgette

Sandwich: Parma ham, Fontina cheese, Chilli relish + tomato

Day 651 All pain no gain

There is a weird energy in the air. All the members at the deli keep injuring themselves. I took myself our yesterday and fell flat on the floor, Mad has done her knee and Frankie fell down the stairs. Somehow there are still a couple smiles behind the counter, but be gentle because there’s a lot of pain in the building.

Salads:

Moroccan spiced lentils

Sumac rice

Sausage + ham ragu pasta

Oriental bean stew

Soup: Miso Aubergine

Day 650 This means war

Nothing could have prepared us for last Friday. There was a constant queue for 4 hours, the staff were spent after. It was quite comedic they way we all looked at each other, like we had just been through war but the hungover population of Clapham will make you feel that way. This is why I prefer Monday’s.

Salads:

5 spice vegetables + beans

Miso rice

Pea + ricotta pesto pasta

Korean spiced tofu egg noodles

Soup: Lightly spiced sweet potato

Sandwich: Napoli salame, Peppercorn pecorino, Chilli relish + tomato

Day 649 Friyay

It is so busy this morning I barely have time to spill my thoughts online, probably for the best really. I woke up late today but luckily its a Friday in Clapham which means the general population are hungover or just exhausted from a shit show of a week. Happy Friday bitches.

Salads:

Thai coconut chickpea curry

Edamame + crispy shallot rice

Roast vegetable ragu pasta

Soup: Tuscan tomato

Sandwich: Spicy mince, Cheddar cheese, frenchies mustard

Day 648 Chishuru

Dinner last night was a flavour sensation. Ingredients i’ve never heard of composed like a movie leading to the main event of Guinea hen (not your usual protein choice). Interesting and well priced for the experience but not accommodating to dietary requirements (this did not effect my dinner). Joke (the chef) is bringing Nigerian food to the fine dining world and i’m here for it.

Salads:

Lentil madras + cauliflower

Ginger + turmeric rice

Mushroom ragu pasta

Fontina cheese bake with leek + potato

Soup: Tomato, borlotti beans + rosemary

Day 647 Supper

Tonight i’m going to a supper club, I’ve never been to a supper club before. I’ve always viewed them as a trendy person pass time. However with my most recent dinners out i’ve been really disappointed so I let someone else hold the reins and i’m hoping for something that actually excites me.

Salads:

Mexican beans

Lemon + garlic rice

Roast squash ragu pasta

Beetroot + ricotta stew

Soup: sweetcorn, ginger + potato

Sandwich: Pulled lemon chicken, cream cheese, peach relish + cucumber

Day 646 Old habits

It is bustling in the deli. You can tell that January is coming to an end and people are returning to their old habits. That’s not to say they’re bad habits, I think the deli is an understandable obsession considering how other establishments are personality less and expensive. If you can keep to a regimented way of life, I salute you.

Salads:

Beetroot goulash

Sumac rice

Roast pepper + cashew pesto pasta

Beef + polenta stew

Soup: Tomato, herb + borlotti bean

Day 645 High tea

I had a very relaxing weekend, I did next to nothing. I went for afternoon tea with my family it was vegan, gluten free and a total waste of money. Afternoon tea is a weird love of mine, it’s one of the only things that makes me proud of my English heritage. However some genius thought a tea without scones was a good idea. Fail.

Salads:

Med veg lentils

Spinach + herb rice

Smokey aubergine + tomato pasta

Baked gratin with multi seed + ricotta

Soup: Indian spiced vegetable

Sandwich: Mortadella ham, Smoked mozzarella, spicy peach relish + tomato

Day 644 No phone

This week has been painful. My body is in the second day of healing after climbing. Genuinely hurts to type this menu. We are witching from BT to Sky and we are experiencing trouble with our landline. I say trouble, we have no landline. Happy Friday

Salads:

Braised veg + borlotti bean

Red pepper rice

Kale pesto pasta (no nuts, no cheese)

Baked pasta

Soup: Thai spiced veg

Day 643 Pain

Oh boy, my body hurts. Climbing is not for the faint hearted but it was so fun. Today my hands are screaming, their feeling tender to say the least. I must put my pain to the side because the winds have whispered to me that it will be a busy day and we must be prepared for anything.

Salads:

Pinto beans + mushroom ragu

Parsley + lemon rice

Courgette, tomato + dill pasta

Chickpea, potato + paneer curry

Soup: Indian spiced parsnip + potato

Sandwich: Spicy beef mince, Cheddar + frenchie’s mustard

Day 642 It's the climb

Tonight i’m climbing. I lack in upper body strength so i’m a little fearful of dropping from a height and injuring myself. I think this is a perfectly rational fear but by my side will be one of the most supportive people i’ve ever come across in my life. As in, if I said I wanted to fly she would be my cheerleader.

Salads:

Chilli non carne

Lemon + garlic rice

Sausage + ham pasta

Cheesy veggie bake

Soup: beetroot, carrot + orange

Day 641 Mild freezer

Mother asked ‘what’s the weather like this morning’ and I said ‘it’s mild’. 4 degrees is mild to me now, i’ve adapted. I’m feeling good today. I have a week of fun activities ahead and the deli is running smoothly. I think the key to a calm state of mind is to remain in touch but ignorant. Politics is a capitalist inferno but I just keep to my circle and the voices in my head, so far its going swimmingly.

Salads:

Aubergine + black bean

Edamame + crispy shallot rice

Cauliflower + cashew pesto pasta

Pearl barley, roast squash + halloumi

Soup: velvet mushroom

Sandwich: Chorizo, Smoked mozzarella, Jalapeno relish + tomato

Day 640 I can't feel my finger tips

I’ve been waking up at 5am in an attempt to be more consistent with the gym because usually I’m emotionally drained by 5pm and the idea of working out makes me want to cry. This morning it was -4 degrees, I stayed in bed. I’m glad we opened half way through January, this month is not for the faint hearted.

Salads:

Paprika roasted squash + white beans

Spinach + herb rice

Roast pepper + tomato pasta

Beef + potato concoction

Soup: Vegetable madras
