Day 45 Can't teach an old dog new tricks

If you have a family member that you don’t see eye to eye with do you stay silent or do you explain your point of view? It’s an excuse we hear time and time again ‘it’s a generation thing’ or ‘don’t bother their old and stuck in their ways’. This cements the premise that no one is capable of change. If you can change your habits at 20 you can at 80.

Salads of the day:

Kidney beans + rainbow peppers

Squash + oregano rice

Chicken ragu pasta

Soup of the day: Spiced lentils

Day 44 Make an effort

I don’t really put much effort into how I look but I have a specific family member that I feel the need to dress up for. If I don’t, I know they will silently judge me or make a snide comment. When I say ‘dress up’ I mean no rips or stains in my clothing. But still.

Salads of the day:

Thai spiced coconut curry

Roast miso rice

Roast pepper + cashew pesto pasta

Soup of the day: Sweet potato · ginger + tomato

Sandwich of the day: Milano salami · Iberico cheese · chilli jam + tomato

Day 43 And it's only Tuesday

I need this weekend to come round pronto. I feel deflated. I’m also in dire need of new shoes, trainers to be exact. I’m lucky I have the counter to hide my sinful shoes. The soles are hanging on with a tiny bit of glue who knows how long they have left. Shoes are one thing I just can’t bring myself to buy online and with the new guidelines for shopping i’d rather be bare feet!

Salads of the day:

Moroccan spiced lentils

Cumin roasted carrot rice

Chicken + ham ragu pasta

Soup of the day: Spinach · Tomato + cumin

Day 42 Lights, Camera, Action

I watched Funny Girl and The Breakfast Club. Maybe if they weren’t so pre hyped I would have liked them more. Funny girl was good but WAY to long, Barbra Steisand is amazing. The Breakfast Club is a great concept I just feel it could have been executed better. Just my opinion.

Salads of the day:

White bean + courgette with turmeric

Harissa and spinach rice

Roast vegetable ragu pasta

Sandwich of the day: Cooked ham, Mature cheddar, Branston pickle + tomato

Soup of the day: Med veg · bean + tomato

Day 41 Divided

I have so many opinions on the BLM movement but the most pressing right now is the safety of the peaceful protesters in and amongst the fascists that plan to come and cause trouble over the demonstrations this weekend. Now more than ever STAY SAFE.

Salads of the day:

Black eyed beans · aubergine in black bean sauce

Ginger + sweet chilli rice

Courgette · tomato + oregano pasta

Soup of the day: Sweetcorn ginger + tomato

Day 40 Let it rain!!

Oh what a beautiful morning! I hold the opposite opinion to most that this weather is lovely. So no complaining from me (for once). My popcorn package is in a Morrision’s in Manchester so thank you UPS.

Salads of the day:

Paprika peppers + brown lentils

Edamame + crispy shallot rice

Broccoli · chilli + garlic pasta

Soup of the day: Spiced red lentils + tomato

Sandwich of the day: Roast Beef · Creamed goats cheese + pickled beetroot

Day 39 What's that smell?

Some people wear too much aftershave. Like, if I can taste it you’ve gone to far…maybe that should be a rule of thumb. The deli should smell of coffee or aromatic salads, not Calkin Klien and Paco Roban!

Salads of the day:

Chickpea + sweet potato coconut curry

Marinated tofu noodle salad

Chicken · bacon + leek pasta

Soup of the day: Carrot + dill

Day 38 My package never came!

My amazing movie package is STILL out of delivery, apparently they ‘attempted’ to deliver yesterday at 3:15pm like whhaaatttt?? so I’m still waiting for 2kg of popcorn what a first world problem.

Salads of the day:

Chilli no carne

Herbed rice

Cauliflower + hazelnut pesto pasta

Soup of the day: Red lentil · ginger + turmeric

Day 37 What a great weekend

I got stuck under a tree in 100% precipitation. I loved it! My dog got soaked and my new fringe was an absolute mess but I had a grand time! While I’ve been typing my dog let one rip and the smell is horrendous. Thanks Moose…

Salads of the day:

Ginger + turmeric roast cauliflower with split peas

Chicken ragu rice

Squash + rosemary pasta

Soup of the day: Roast aubergine · potato + basil

Day 36 I can't wait for the weekend to begin

It should rain all weekend. This means movies all day and a muddy dog in the evening. My favourite! This week has been an emotional roller coaster. So many debates and discussions over some of the biggest political circumstances of the 21st century. I hope next week is a little more light weight!!

Salads of the day:

Med veg + lentils

Spinach + herb rice

Pea · basil + tomato pasta

Soup of the day: Cauliflower · turmeric + chilli

Day 35 Rain, rain come today

Another day, another slay. It’s June people! Honestly I may as well start Christmas shopping. I think it’s gonna rain soon which is much needed the common is dusty!

Salads of the day:

5 spiced roast squash with aduki beans

Fattoush with feta

Roast vegetable ragu pasta

Soup of the day: Sweetcorn · ginger + tomato

Sandwich of the day: Fennel salami, Tortas de barros, Spicy peach relish + tomato

Day 34 Movie night

It’s on it’s way, the best movie night ever. 2 kg of popcorn, 1.5kg nacho’s, dips, candyfloss, toffee popcorn and a popcorn tin. This is why I love online shopping, you can’t buy that in a shop!! Scott’s Cinema if you’re interested (you’re welcome).

Salads of the day:

Broccoli + spinach pesto pasta (contains cashews)

Chicken ragu potato salad

Soup of the day: Tuscan tomato

Day 33 Go fetch

Last night after working 12 hours I went home and cut a fringe. This was a bad idea. I have curly hair, which means when it dries i have a small afro on my forehead. I look like a show poodle. So i’d like to announce that I have signed up for crufts 2021 for best in show. Woof woof… #badhairdontcare

Salads of the day:

Moroccan spiced lentils

Crab stick noodle salad

Red pepper + tomato pasta

Sandwich of the day: Wagyu beef salami, Swiss cheese, chilli jam + tomato

Day 32 The new normal

So is this the new normal? I managed to find a quiet spot on the common this weekend by the time I left there was a sea of people in the main fields. You wouldn’t guess there was anything wrong. However restaurants are still closed and I have some vouchers I wanted to cash in but a pandemic wasn’t in the T&C’s so are they still valid??

Salads of the day:

Thai green curry + black eyed beans

Edamame + crispy shallot rice

Sausage + ham ragu pasta

Soup of the day: Gazpacho

Day 31 The final round of applause

I believe last night was the last clap for the NHS, going forward instead of clapping I think we should just be more grateful and remember how lucky we are that the system exists. I watched a video about how much health care costs in America and I was shocked it’s insane! So thank you.

Salads of the day:

Veggie chickpea curry

Pasta e fagioli

Soup of the day: Tomato · bean + parsley

Day 30 Good vibes

My package came!!! I know you all care so much. Today I have a positively fierce manicure…on one hand. I’m starting a trend. Also just so you know we are accepting reusable cups because, well, the destruction of the environment will kill us faster than COVID! #leangreenkillingmachine

Salads of the day:

Paprika white bean with aubergine

Miso rice noodles

Squash · tomato + rosemary pasta

Day 29 Where's my package?

I’ve been anticipating a package for a month now. I stare out the window everyday hoping Royal Mail will request a signature, and a box will be handed to me. What is it i’m waiting for? A polygel nail kit. While some paint, knit, sew or read I like to spend my time doing nails. I find it therapeutic don’t judge until you tried it.

Salads of the day:

Roast pepper + black eyed beans in black bean sauce

Nicoise style salad with crab sticks

Sausage + ham ragu pasta

Sandwich of the day:

Coppa ham, peppercorn pecorino, onion relish + tomato

Day 28 Well rested

I had a lovely weekend but I did get sun-burn so I look like a clown! There was outrage about this Dominic Cummings fella, what do you think? I’m split personally because in reality everyone has been a hypocrite at one point in their life.

Sandwich of the day: Lemon roasted pulled chicken with swiss cheese and red onion

Salads of the day: Indian spiced chickpea veggie curry · Harissa + sweetcorn rice · Broccoli garlic + chilli pasta

Day 27 Cheers to the weekend

Typical. The weekend I decide I want to sit in the park with my dog and a few beers the weather turns. Lucky I don’t believe in coincidences. Sorry all, but we will be closed on the bank holiday Monday so you will have to cook for yourselves, don’t worry Jamie Oliver has plenty cookbooks!

Soup of the day: Aubergine + tomato

Salads of the day : Sausage + pea ragu with Fregola · Med veg + lentils

Day 26 I do love a conspiracy in the morning

If there isn’t a spike in the next 2 weeks I will get really suspicious because there is NO social distancing happening. People may as well be sharing straws at this point... I’m not a conspiracy theorist and I’m not a scientist but this global lock down doesn’t sit well with me.

-Thai spiced roast squash and aduli beans

-Edamame + crispy shallot rice

-Roasted pepper and cashew pasta
